About the Connecticut State Data Center (CtSDC)
The CtSDC, located within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
(CLAS) at the University of Connecticut,
serves as the state's official liaison to the
U.S. Census Bueau and seeks to develop a
single portal for all socio-economic data sets for the State of Connecituct and its
municipalities. Prior to its creation in 2006, Connecticut had been without a state
data center for more than five years.
The Center's mission is to assist the state in meeting its
obligations to provide reliable, timely population estimates and projections, to
enable the state to evaluate the accuracy of official federal counts of Connecticut's
population, to enhace state and numicipal capacity to develop and evluate policies, and
to plan future development. In May 2007 CtSDC released
Population Projections to 2030.
CtSDC proposes to deliver original research, as well as provide
assistance to business and the public in finding and using appropriate and current data sources.

CtSDC staff have organized training programs for Connecticut
personnel, organized a network of coordinating and affiliated agencies,
facilitated municipal participation in the critically important Local Update of Census
Addresses (LUCA) input into the Census' Master Address
File (MAF) development for the 2010 Census, and completed a comprehensive direct survey
of Group Quarters, an area in which the National Research Council
identified major counting errors.
