About the Census State Data Center (SDC) program
In 1978, the U. S. Census initiated the State Data Center program, recognizing that the public needed efficient and local access to its data and data products. To accomplish this goal, Census established lead organizations, who then developed partnerships with Affiliates within their state.
SDC Affiliates in Connecticut are asked to help the U.S. Census distribute demographic, economic and social information:
- Statistics produced by Census and associated government agencies, such as Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA).
- Availability of data at no or a minimal charge, on a cost basis if necessary.
- Training and technical assistance for the public in the use of these data sources.
- Feedback loop to report to the Census on usage and operational issues.
